Salpoente Restaurant – More than 30 years and going
This restaurant is not a novelty or something that just popped up. No, this place has been around since 1991 and is still going strong. They offer both lunch and dinner and have a regular menu alongside a tasting menu. Since it was my birthday – we opted for the tasting menu. And that’s not all… We also went for the wine pairing and drink pairing with our meals.
I ordered the vegetarian tasting menu and Mini chose the local regional products tasting menu. Mini got five different dishes and I got four. However, we both tried from each other plates (like we always do) and none of us were disappointed. And for the amount of food we got and all the great service, the price was not that bad. We paid 130 euros for the whole ”shebang”! Here is more information about our menu. Don’t get too hungry while watching the photos!
Tasting menu – Food from the region
The meal started with fried oysters, red onion chutney, and mayonnaise made out of coriander. The second dish was something with patty in panko and black inc from an octopus. And a dinner in Portugal wouldn’t be complete without the famous Portuguese national dish Bacalhau (codfish). The next dish was meat and gnocchi made out of chestnuts – yes chestnuts!
And then of course it was the desert. We even ended up getting an extra goodie. I also want to let you know that we were greeted with a glass of champagne. The whole meal was incredible and Mini and I ended up having such a lovely time at the restaurant.
Tasting menu – Vegetarian option
The chef did not disappoint on the vegetarian menu. It was actually quite the opposite. For a starter, I got a mix of truffles, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes – all in one dish. The second dish was with algae and couscous. That was followed by a vegetarian Nasi Goreng. And since Mini and I ordered different meals (and they prefer that you choose the same) we got the same dessert.
We ended up having such a nice time at the restaurant and the problem was that it ended up being too much food and we had a hard time finishing it all. And, that’s what we really love about a great restaurant. You want to eat and become happy. A lot of restaurants are not serving enough food and that’s bad when you spend your hard-earned money on a meal. We recommend Salpoente Restaurant to anyone that is traveling in Portugal. If you are in Lisbon, make sure to visit the LX factory and chose one of their restaurants. And, if you end up in Porto – check out Os Lusiadas, another Michelin recommended restaurant.
