Jardin de Cactus. The place that is all about cactus. This was the last place that Cesar Manrique made before he died. This is a place of beauty, a place where you can walk around and sit down and relax. It is not a big place but time flies by when you are here. Come with us as we visit this place and explore the world of cacti.

Jardin de Cactus in Lanzarote
Like always, I’m gonna be totally honest and let you know that our expectations for this place were super low. I mean, neither of us has a huge interest in plants and cacti so we thought that this was such a place that we just “need to tick off our list”. From the road, we could see a huge cactus (it is not real though) and we parked the motorhome and went inside. It didn’t take us long until we totally changed our mind. This place is awesome!
Here you can find about 4 500 specimens and about 450 different species from 13 different families of cactus. They have been brought here from 5 different continents. They are placed in a perfect environment and it all looks super inviting. Yes, this is an oasis in Lanzarote that you don’t want to miss. A real safe haven that shows you how awesome plants really are.
Explore Jardin de Cactus from different angles
The dark volcano makes the perfect setting for these green plants. Adding a clear blue sky into the equation and you have found a piece of paradise. My favorite part about this place is that you can see all the cacti from several different heights. It is built with several plateaus so you can walk there and look down and up at the same time. Some of the artwork reminded me of termite nests and it fit perfectly into the environment.
And while being here, visit the windmill as well. Not because there is something special about the windmill but because it gives you a nice view of the Jardin de Cactus. Like always (at tourist attractions) there is a restaurant/café and a gift shop. My favorite thing in the gift shop were miniature cacti that they were selling. They were not bigger than a fingernail and were so cute. To sum it up – Casar Manrique did not disappoint anyone when he created this place!
