Do you fancy sardines? If yes then this is the store for you. If no – this is still a store for you. Maybe you won’t be doing a lot of shopping here if you don’t like sardines but you must still visit the store. Sardine heaven in the city center of Lisbon.
The Fantastic World Of Portuguese Sardines
All of the sardines that you can buy here are exactly the same. The only thing that looks different is the cans that they are in. The theme is like the circus. All of the staff that is working there have clothes that remind of the speaker at the circus. Music from the speakers remind you of the carnival and some of the cans are riding a Ferris wheel.
The roof of the store looks like the inside of a clock and it’s moving. They have really thought of all the details here.
Cans with a memory in Lisbon
Each can of sardines cost 7 euros so they are not cheep. At the same time, I think that the point is not to buy a bunch of sardines and eat them. You buy them as souvenirs to family and friends. But what’s so special with the sardines that are sold here?
They all have different years printed on the lid. There is also information on an interesting or an important thing or event that happened during that year. How awesome is that?! I had to find the most important years for us and see what they said. Some of them had to do with Portugal and Lisbon but it was fun to read! Here are our years:
- 1979 – The year Mini was born. Walkman is invented! If any of our readers are younger and don’t know what that is… It is like the mp3 player of the 80’s.
- 1980 – The year I was born. Release of Pacman. The game where the yellow ball with a mouth chases things to eat.
- 2005 – The year Mini and I met. Kyoto protocol entered into force. Ok honestly… I have no idea of what that is all about.
- 2009 – The year that we got married. The treaty of Lisbon entered into force.
