Ksiaz castle is said to be one of Poland most beautiful. After Malbork and Wawel castle, it is also the third largest castle in the country. It is said that the castle was to become Hitler’s new home. Well, it’s a great thing that it never happened but the castle was seized during WWII and was also a part of the underground city. 

Ksiaz Castle, a main attraction of Poland

It was built at the end of the thirteenth century. Its place was of great strategic importance because it protected the trade routes from Silesia to Bohemia. The castle is also famous for changing owners very often. Usually, a castle will stay with the same family but not this one. Ksiaz Castle has changed owners a lot over the years.

The other thing that made it famous and popular is that this was supposed to be Hitler’s home. This part of Poland was part of Germany during that time and it was also part of the Project Riese and the underground city. And whether you enjoy history or not, you are bound to enjoy a beautiful and old castle like this!

Inside the Ksiaz Castle, Walbrzych, Poland

Living full time in a motorhome it’s hard for me to say if old castles often are equipped with elevators?! I don’t believe that I have seen it before – until now. Because yes there is an elevator (no two) inside the castle. There are also incredible huge fireplaces in the different rooms. I think that you could fit a horse inside one of those fireplaces. Beautiful ceilings that are painted and made out of different patterns. Big and powerful pictures in the saloons where the wallpaper is made out of fabric.

And one thing that was really interesting to see were the photographs of the families that used to live their. Well the pictures of their dogs were very funny to see. Turned out that their dogs were also royalty and they were dressed up for picture time. They had hats and looked the part! And when we are on the subject of different… Inside the castle, they have an antique store. Yes, you can buy antiques while visiting this castle.

Art exhibition with a meaning

My favorite part of visiting the Ksiaz castle was without a doubt the art exhibition that also was inside the huge castle. It was an exhibition that made you think.The whole thing was made out of posters with powerful messages. For example, there was one poster with a plate with loads of food. The plate was in a trashcan and behind it, there was a hungry child. Messages like that!

Minis absolute favorite was to photograph the castle from the viewpoint. The viewing point is a walk away from the castle and it’s definitely worth it. From this place you can see the whole castle – something, you can’t do from up close! The placement of the castle is what makes it so awesome. I could almost imagine Cinderella walking out of it!

Price (2017): 34:- zloty. But in that price, you get to see the palm house and the terraces too.
