A honey farm in Thailand? Well yes of corse, I mean why not?! All jokes aside. Is this a tourist trap? Sure it is, a big one. The good thing about it is that you are not forced to buy anything but you get to try loads of stuff!

Big Bee Honey Farm
It was during a Half Day sight Seeing Tour with Phuket Sunshine Tour. The program for the day was to visit some highlights in Phuket like Big Buddha and viewing points. Suddenly the small minivan stops at a honey factory. Is this a great thing in Phuket? Well I don’t think so. My guess is that the company – in this case the Phuket Sunshine Tour get commission for bringing people to the factory. This is not a new phenomenon. We have spent many hours in places that felt like tourist traps. For example, who has been to Turkey without ending up at a carpet factory?
This is all part of being a tourist. You are better off to just get of the minibus or van and try to enjoy yourself. So thats what we did.
Everything made out of Honey
The Big Bee Honey farm is a place that sells all things honey. You get to see the bees and how they make the honey and then you are brought into a big store where you can shop all honey-related products. In all honesty, it is quite expensive for being in Thailand but I bet you that it is all organic and really good quality! So what can you buy here – except for honey? You can buy chocolate, tea, coffee, facial cream, alcohol and much more. All of it is with honey. I strolled around in the store, ate all the honey chocolates (yes there are several). I put some hand cream on my hands and had a cup of honey coffee. And that was all for free. You do not pay for samples and the store has a lot to sample.
So even if a Honey farm is not the first thing that comes to mind as a “must do” while in Phuket – you are likely to end up here. That is if you book a tour with an agency. And it is not all that bad. We did not stay for that long. Some of the tourist accompanying us bought some stuff with them. We did not buy anything but I can still say that I have tried honey – chocolate and drank honey coffee, all with my soft honey hands!
