This is a place that you don’t want to miss. However, there are a lot of other people that think the same thing. This makes this popular place a very crowded place so make sure to make reservations before you go there. Join us as we visit Cantina 32.
Cantina 32 has a perfect location
Our experience tells us that if you want great food, you must often go to a location that is outside of the city center. If you get the perfect location – the food is ok or good but not great. But Cantina 32 is the place that proves us wrong. Because this restaurant is in the city center and at the same time they serve the most amazing food.
They serve both lunch and dinner so if you are walking around in the city center, you can just pop in and make a reservation. And make sure to check out the ambiance because that is really incredible! I loved the walls and the lamps that were on the walls. It made it look a bit rustic but at the same time modern.
You can share a table at Cantina 32
We got lucky when we entered because there was a table available for us. But since we had not made any reservation, they only had one big table left. Since we were only two people we got to share a table with other people. Unfortunately, the people that we were sharing our table with didn’t feel the same. We ended up being three couples (or friends) at the big table. I tried to connect with the other people but ended up talking just to Mini since the other people didn’t seem to want to make new friends.
But if you are not looking for a romantic dinner, we recommend you to ask for a shared table because this is a great way to make some new friends while enjoying an amazing dinner (or lunch).
As Lulas Que Nunca Chegam – Squid that is incredible
As Lulas Que Nunca Chegam is Portuguese and translates to “the squid that never stops” which means that you just want to keep eating and that is a perfect name for a perfect dish! Because yes – you just want to keep eating it! The best tip that we can give you is that you order some extra bread because you want to dip your bread in the sauce that the squid is in.
This is the restaurants signature dish and we really understand why. Mini is not a huge fan of seafood. He will eat it but he is most likely to say that it is ok but not great. I, on the other hand, love seafood and don’t mind to eat most of it. But when it came to this dish – we almost fought over who would get the last piece.
The head chef Bruno Santos and the chef Pedro Cunha, were incredible and generous and gave us their recipe and allowed us to share it with you guys. This is an incredible dish… even for people that are not that into squid.
Recipe – As Lulas Que Nunca Chegam
This is what you need:
- 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard.
- 1 tablespoon of Ancient dijon mustard.
- 1 chopped garlic clove.
- 1/2 chopped red hot chili pepper.
- 80 grams of clean and chopped squid.
- Virgin Olive oil.
- 2 tablespoons of salted butter.
- 1 tablespoon of cilantro.
- salt and pepper.
- A dash of lime juice.
This is how you make it:
- Put the squid in a frying pan and season with salt and pepper.
- Add the garlic clove and the chili.
- Let the squid get a golden color.
- Add the mustard and the butter into the pan.
- Mix it all together until the butter is fully melted, but don’t let it burn.
- Add the cilantro and put the mix on a plate.
- Add a dash of lime and serve (with bread).
Amazing meat and a simple but really good salad
We ordered a meat dish as a main course and we could smell it long before it was brought to the table. It was served on a wooden plate and it had the best tasting garlic ever! The salad was really simple. It was just a plain salad with some really good vinaigrette and cheese on top. Who knew that a simple salad could taste this good?
They are also known for their dessert – a cheesecake that is served in a pot. However, Mini and I were full and decided not to try that out during our visit. Overall this is a really nice place and the staff is really friendly and helpful.
