Wroclaw has a long and dark history loaded with war and dark times. All over the city you can find traces from the war. The battle at Racławice is the only Panorama painting in Poland and it is a huge tourist attraction. We had to check out what all the fuss was about.

Panorama Racławicka, Wroclaw
The painting is huge. It is 15 meters high and 114 meters long. The painting is very impressive and it is very well painted. It is made in 3D and there are props laid out to make it even more realistic. Once getting your ticket you will have a guide take you to the painting. When we entered the room I first thought that we were back outside. The blue skies of the painting make you feel like you are outside, because that is the first thing you will see while coming up the stairs.
The information is coming out of loudspeakers and it’s in polish. However you can get the information in other languages by using a headset.
A historical information tour
The tour, that is just around the painting, lasts for 30 minutes. At fist you get a few minutes to just stroll around and check out the painting. After that you will get information on were to stand and the audio will start to explaining the different scenes that are played out in the painting. During the 30 minutes you will walk around the whole painting, getting all the information about the battle. In all honesty, I was mostly impressed by the painting itself and not that much about the battle that happened. But it was interesting and you will get things pointed out on the painting that you might have missed otherwise.
Amazing 3D art – hard to see what is painted and what is real
This panorama painting is really beautiful and it is so well made that it is hard to see what is part of the painting and what is props. You are not allowed to get close enough to touch it but we had several discussions on weather it was painted or real. That is a good grade to get as a painter! There is also a rumor going on that the painting has a shelter in case of war. The painting is supposed to be rolled up and stored inside a walt. The problem is that the walt is not big enough for the rolled up painting. That means that it will not be able to be closed if something happens. Weather this is true or just a rumor, I have no idea!
DID YOU KNOW THAT 750 KG PAINT WAS USED TO MAKE THE PANORAMA?
I am not a big fan of war but the painting was truly amazing. If it was painted as a savannah instead with zebras, elephants and lions I would have loved to move in there right away. Imagine living inside the savannah, looking at animals all day?! Me like!
