Watching airplanes land is that a thing? It sure is and there is something really special to be that close but still at a safe distance to feel the power from the airplanes. Just outside of Puerto del Carmen and close to Playa Honda, there is an airport where you can watch the planes land. And it is well worth going there!

Watching airplanes land for free

I am not a huge fan of flying but apparently, I enjoy watching airplanes land. It was Mini’s idea, to go to the airstrip to see them land and at first. I was not that interested but I decided to join him and boy I’m glad that I did! It is awesome and there is something so powerful that fills your body when hearing and seeing the plane swoosh by.

There is a great spot to stand, right before the planes land at the airstrip. To see a huge aircraft that close and to hear its roaring is a special feeling. We were not alone at the spot. There was a pretty large crowd of people sitting down and talking. Some were drinking coffee and having a picnic and just enjoying the day. When there was an incoming plane, everyone became quiet and just watched the plane pass by. And then it was “back to normal” until the next plane came.

Powerful experience at a safe distance

There are a lot of places in the world where you can see airplanes land and this airport is probably not one of the best to make it onto any “The 10 best lists”. However, it is still an awesome place to be and you will get pretty close to the aircraft. A tip is to bring something to eat or/and to drink and spend some time here.

We ended up spending about two hours here and the only reason that we finally left was that it started getting dark and the waiting between the planes became longer and longer. But we were both happy with this adventure and wanted to share it with you guys!
